What is a good acne medication?
Katie asked:
I don’t have terrible acne. But I do break out from time to time. I have been dealing with acne my whole life. I jump from medication to medication, but nothing seems to work as well as I want it to. I still break out. My dermatologist has me on Benzaclin and Differin. They both make my acne go away quicker than usual, but I would like a medication that will prevent acne, not just slowly reduce it. The only downfall is I don’t want one that will dry out my skin. Is there even such a thing?

Have you tried sensitive skin Proactiv?
let someone bust their load on your face ok katie
I use the Neutrogena Wave at night before I go to bed, and put Differin on the spots where I have acne. It works really good, and the Neutrogena Wave makes your skin so smooth and soft! You should try it.
I’ve always used in store products. Most people say go and try Proactiv, but if you go to your local drug store, there is a brand called Acne Free. It’s the exact same thing but cheaper. It worked really well for me and did not dry out my skin. It comes with a cleanser and a moisturizer.
I also tried Visibly Even which is like $5 or 6 for the cleanser and about $8 for the moisturizer. I can say they defintely help with existing blemishes.
You should also be careful what you use on your face. Look at the ingredients on the bottle. What ever one you see first in the main ingredient. Also, by mixing so many things on your face, you freak your face out and cause it to be dry or even break out more.
Acne need to be tackled through medication and a very thorough and disciplined hygiene regimen. Once your pimples have been cleared with antibiotics, you must stick to a precise routine of cleansing, toning and exfoliating (gently) in order to keep the skin free of bacteria. Algologie has one of the best range of products on the market. It is all seaweed-based. I have seen fantastic results with it but you must stick to the routine. Call 1800 809 317 for your nearest Algologie beautician. Alternatively, email me on and I will try to help. Good luck.
# Find a good-quality skin care system. Ideally, this should be in the form of a facial cleanser, toner or serum, and moisturizer. Avoid anything with oil (as this can break out your skin– be careful: a lot of moisturizers sneak this in) or alcohol (as it can dry your skin, leading to an increased oil production and more breakouts). I STRONGLY recommend buying products from an all-natural company named MyChelle– this is the only system that has completely cleared my skin (and yes, I have tried Proactiv, Neutrogena, AcneClear, etc.). They use all-natural ingredients, and are completely paraben-free. However, a word of warning: MyChelle can become very expensive, but a little goes a long way. Generally, you will want to use a dime-size amount of cleanser, two pumps of the Clear Skin Serum, and only one pump of the moisturizer. This means that the face wash will last you 3+ months, the serum about 1.5 months, and the moisturizer about 3 months. I suggest purchasing a sample kit at your local health food store or Amazon and then seeing what a difference it makes. Also, I suggest buying from Amazon.com– sign up for a subscription to have these products mailed to you every month or so, and you will get free shipping and save about $10!
