Suffers from Persistent Acne Only?
canaridiamond asked:
I just posted Solutions for Acne up about 1hr ago. And I’m getting comments like try proactiv and go see a dermatologist blah blah blah. I’ve had acne for 6 years now and its going no where fast because of genetics. Those who do not have persistent acne can make comments like that because they have no idea what its like to wake up with more bumps and your doing everything that your 5th dermatologist told you. I can almost guarantee anybody that someone with persistant acne has some of the cleanest skin, acne has nothing to do with your skin being clean, its so much more complex than that. People who don’t have acne assume that we don’t take care of our skin when in fact we spend thousands of dollars a year seeing dermatologist and buying prescriptions. There is no cure for severe or persistent acne, just minimizing. I just wanted to put that out there for all the real acne sufferers.

Are you on birth control? That helps. The pill. NOT the shot. I was on the shot for a while and it didn’t help at all….now I’m on Desogen (the pill), and my face has cleared up wonderfully.
I know– I can’t stand acne. I mostly get the cystic type, man those hurt.
I am doing well with AcneFree wash and stuff.
My Grandpa had it bad enough that he used to get steroid injections in his face when he was in his 60′s.
I’m with you. Hope things get better soon.
Yes, it’s true to a point.. You can go out and get some sun.. It always dries mine up a bit. SOme people will always get acne flare ups no matter what.
I agree with what you say. I know somebody with persistent acne too…don’t worry, just minimize your oily foods intake as they would trigger it even more.
ProActiv works for a lot of people. I don’t think that was dumb of a person to comment that.
This is basically the same thing you said in the last “question”.
I can see you are in pain about this. My daughter had acne terrible when she was in high school and she became so withdrawn. We tried everything, over the counter, Tetracycline, dermatologist but to no avail. One day I just ordered Pro Activ and within two weeks there was such a noticable difference in her complexion I couldn’t believe it. I think that maybe she was washing her face too much and aggravating the situation with soap and the rubbing and scrubbing she was doing. Pro Activ is not soap and she also gets the moisturizer which does not clog her pores and leaves a nice, glow to her skin. I hope you have success with your problem and I just wanted to share this with you. It took us almost two years to find something that worked. Good Luck to you.
Hi, I`m so sorry that you suffer from this, my daughter was going through the same thing, the dermatologist told her to use dial soap twice a day and drink plenty of water. This is helping her sooo much.
I hope you can find something that works for you .
Thanks. And stresses and sleep and…. I’ve heard them too. I just try to minimize also.
I mentioned such to my doctor a while back, and he said as he pointed between my legs, “Not much is going to help as long as you’ve got those things”–saying that testosterone is one of the catalysts for both my acne and thinning hair. Since my wife has had some ‘female problems’ and we don’t get together that way often anymore, I muttered, “Well I don’t seem to be using them.”
Somethings we just can’t fully get around. Good luck.
Accutane. It is the strongest medicine out there for acne and it really works for almost every person who uses it. After I did it years ago, it made my face almost perfect and it has been managable ever since – permanently.
It’s all in the diet (mostly) – like you said.. the only way to deal with it is to minimize the triggers.
Washing too much can actually increase the acne problem.
EMAIL me if interested in chatting about your acne – we can share stories. Acne is horrible and people need other people to share ideas with.
FREE SOLUTION!!! My suggestion to all with acne issues: Cut out all dairy and seafood (shellfish) for a couple of months. See what happens. It’s worth the try
Should also cut out red meat – this can also contains the enzyme/hormonal link to acne.
Go to google and type in “dairy and acne”. The proof is increasing every year.
can tell you after 40 years of it that there is only couple of things you can do about acne. First, Accutane-you can take for a brief period of time, about 3 to 6 months, twice in your lifetime. It stops it cold, but it comes back. Second, certain anti-biotics are effective, if your stomach can deal with it; I’m currently taking 100mg. of Doryx and it has been keeping it under good control. Third, hope and pray for a cure. Since it isn’t fatal and since only about 10% or less of the population is afflicted, mostly not as long as me, there is relatively little research money being spent on this which is unfortunate. Fortunate for all the dermatologists and pharmaceuticals who are ripping people off with their charges for office visits and topicals which are a complete waste of time. Considering it is a fact, that all things being equal, humans are drawn to beauty and employers will hire the “better looking person” always, there should be a bill introduced by some afflicted congressperson which declares acne as a disability to some extent.
Try using scrubs for oily skin and try using an acne product at the same time. Also use salt rocks to minimize the bacteria to be in contact with the sweat. What causes acne is the contact with sweat and bacteria clogging your pore. That’s what i use…
I really do understand your pain on this matter. There have been important events I have missed because if my face and not caring to deal with the embarrassment. Honestly, I am 31. I have had BAD acne my whole life. I still fight it now when my ‘monthly’
comes around, but for the most part I have been able to control it with a few things.
First of all, I stay on a low estrogen birth control because it helps balance those hormones that make us break out. I exercise to help relieve stress. I eat right, drink lots of water and I use Proactive. However, if you follow these other steps, anything will work if you prefer it to Proactive. Proactive DID work for me though. If you haven’t tried it, do. And as with any product, you can’t just use it a month or two and expect it will work. You have to use it constantly for 6 months or better. Constancy is KEY to all this. We all want immediate results, but you have to work at it.
So, start by drinking half your body weight in ounces of water. If you weight 140, drink atleast 70 ounces of water a day. It flushes your body of impurities. Truly, the foods we eat affect our bodies in more than just weight and health. For people with skin issues, the best foods to eat are the ones as close to being pure and natural as possible. No processed, refined, sugar-fat-grease-starch packed foods. In other words, low fat meats, fresh fruits and veggies, moderate intake of dairy, grain and pasta. No caffeine, sodas or juices, besides low sodium V8.
And most importantly, you have to exercise! It helps pump the blood and get the impurities polluting our bodies OUT! Plus it makes you feel better because it relieves stress, which is a main cause of acne.
I know you’ve heard all this before. I know you’ve heard it will get worse before it gets
better. Thats true. But you really have to change more than just your facial cleanser to
cure acne. You have to clean house! good luck and god bless!
I have had acne since I turned 21 (i’m 35 now). At the onset of it, I went to a derma and he said I have “adult acne” and there is no cure. I get the cystic kind and it seems to come and go w/my monthly cycle. I’m convinced that hormones have a lot to do with it. The ONLY thing I ever found that works that nobody has mentioned yet is tanning. If you go to a tanning bed for 5 minute sessions once a week, I guarantee that your acne will go away; on your face, back, buttocks, where ever you have it. The only thing is you have to keep going or the acne will come back. Tanning also works for a wide variety of skin ailments
Hey listen-
About a month ago, I woke up and cried….
My face was in such bad shape…and..not only my face, but my whole chest agrea and my back too. (it was like up my neck and everything) was just covered in horrible horrible acne.
I have been seeing a dermatologist for about a year now…but nothing has helped (I’ve also tried Proactive…didn’t work for me, but I’m not saying it dosn’t work for everyone). So out of sheer dispare I stopped, stopped using all of the medicine he perscribed. And started over
I started drinking tons of water each and every day…about 10 glasses (heck I was going to the bathroom every 2 min!!! haha) Also, I switched soap I was using (I was using Purpose bar soap) to Ceytaphil gental face wash….Ummm, then I loaded my face and chest area day and night with Benzoil Peroxide gell 2.5% (don’t get more percent than that, because it’s to irrataiting…and at first it was really irrataiting, my face was like really dry…but I kept with it- I recomend Neutrogena) I stopped drinking/eating and dairy product…and ate more fresh fruits and vegetables.
I’m happy to say…My acne on my chest is completely gone. Umm the acne on my face, is about 85% better, I’m not going to lie…it isn’t 100% better, but…knowing how it was before…i’m not complaining! LIsten, Acne is bad, belive me…it’s bad- I know exactly what you are going through….actually 2 days ago was the first time this whole summer that I actually went to a pool party (before I was to imbarased to be seen with all my acne) It’s hard, but you will get through this. Also, stop staring at the mirror and complaining- the less you think about it…the faster it goes away.
Alright- so try it maybe? The key thing is the Benzoyl gell. Seriously pile it on your face!! Hope this helps for you…and I’m sorry if it dosn’t. Keep the faith (ps. It seemed to get worse before it got better for me…so just keep at it even if it seems to flair up a bit in the beggining) OOOH! Also….I quit using any makeup on my face (Couldnt stop using the eye makup….but if you are comfortable enough, i encourage you to lay low on the makeup until it gets better…or get makeup with no fragrences, dermatologist tested etc) If you use this kind of makeup with all the bad stuff in it….it will only make matters worse.
Good luck
If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:
