why does some acne treatments make my acne worse?

i use the clean and clear face wash and it cleared up my skin pretty well…. but then i thought i should use the clean and clear and other acne treatment kits and my acne got worse and my pimples got so big… why is that?
maybe it was because of all the chemicals that were being used but im not sure.
but then again i have very sensitive skin

Also, I was thinking of using the product Murad Complex, What are some reviews? I have also tried proactive and didn’t work. Help!
I forgot to mention that I use make-up also. I use Artisty translusent(sorry if mispelled) makeup. I also tried using the almay blemish clearing pressed powder but it just dried up my skin.
